About Me

Learning is my life & I love it! An avid reader & writer since my earliest memories, I continue to develop my passion every day as a middle school Language Arts teacher. [But here's a secret: I probably learn more from my amazing students than they do from me!]

I'm currently enhancing my life as a learner at the University of Colorado Denver, where I'm enrolled in the Instructional Learning Technology grad program. This blog serves as a forum where I can share my passion for reading, writing and educational technology with the world.

My Passion Portfolio

This virtual collection not only demonstrates the work I have accomplished while pursuing my Master's in Information and Learning Technology, but also shows my passion for learning and a life of learning.

Genius.com is an inspirational site if you love to read, think and annotate. I recently completed an internship project in which I studied how using Genius.com's collaborative annotation platform affects students' reading and writing performances. To see how the site works, check out the reflective piece I created for E-Learning Trends and Issues, in which I consider how my passion has influenced how I teach Gifted and Talented classes.

On my Genius.com page, I also discussed the impact of initiating a novel writing program for my middle school nearly 10 years ago. It has led me to pursue my own passion for creative writing while encouraging students to pursue theirs. During my Creative Designs for Instructional Materials course, I aimed my Pecha Kucha spotlight on my students and their hard work. This project helped me see just how amazing the experience has been for me. After eight years of novel writing with my students, the pecha kucha also gave me an opportunity to renew and refresh the work I had been doing with my students.

The first course I enrolled in at UCDenver brought me back to my roots! Digital Storytelling in the Curriculum challenged me to explore a memorable place that expressed who I am, where I'm from. So I traveled way back to my hometown, Oklahoma City, and a unique place that allowed me to express myself. I continue to search for ways to creatively express my thoughts, so it makes perfect sense that my new journey towards a new passion in life and learning would begin with this digital story. Now, I use my learning from this first grad course to help my students discover and reflect on their own personal identity stories. We write and create digital stories just like the one above!
